Kaduna PDP Crises: Being Law Abiding Does Not Mean Cowardice, Mr LA tells Sardauna
The Kaduna Central Senatorial Candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Lawal Adamu (Mr LA) has reacted following attacks on his followers and destruction of campaign vehicles amongst others. The Candidate penned the below statement.
"I want to draw the attention of the general public to the heinous act of violence, destruction of properties and malice against my supporters by the person I defeated on the 23rd of May 2022 during the Primary Election for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium here in Kaduna.
"Yesterday, the 26th of December 2022, my attention was drawn to the occurrence of a meeting of candidates of various offices in our Party, the PDP at the Atiku/Okowa Campaign Office in Kaduna. I told the individual who informed me of the meeting that I was not invited as such I would respect their privacy by staying clear of the venue of the meeting.
"Apparently, the meeting held yesterday was in preparation for the flag off of campaign of our gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru among other matters discussed at the meeting. Today, the 27th of December, 2022 my supporters took our campaign buses in solidarity with the gubernatorial candidate and accompanied him to Kajuru where the flag off was to take place.
"What I thought I was doing for the success of our great party turned out to be an ambush against my supporters by one Usman Ibrahim AKA Sardaunan Badarawa and his cohorts. Our campaign buses got entangled in a hail of stones, sticks, knives and daggers. They destroyed many of our campaign buses and severely injured a lot of the occupants of the vehicles.
"God Is my witness, I have condoned enough. I obeyed the courts when I was illegitimately ruled against by the Kaduna High Court 1. I stopped campaigning and consulting for votes out of respect for the courts and the rule of law. Fortunately, the Appeal Court returned my mandate on the 19th of December 2022. This judgement is what certain people are not happy with, to the point the Badarawa individual went on air and openly castigated the ruling of the Appeal Court an action that is contemptuous to the honour of the courts. The individual categorically stated that he does not recognise the verdict. I called upon my supporters and warned them to remain calm despite the pain of such malicious statements against the courts, civility and the rule of law. Sadly for them, they took it a notch higher today by physically attacking our campaign properties and injuring scores of my beloved supporters.
"This is for the general public to take note that my politics is not of thuggery, violence or malice. But I shall continue to follow the law and report any infringement against myself and my supporters by any individual or group to the appropriate authorities for proper redress.
Thank you.
